Today I was reminded of two interesting questions, and I thought I would share my answers here. I was asked what I ultimately wanted in this life, and what the meaning of the universe was.
The first question I answered something like this:
What I want out of life is to inspire people to lead a better life, to cherish those around them, and to be kind to everyone. I want my art with words, music, and other mediums to be appreciated and enjoyed by many. On the selfish side I want to find a woman I can love and who loves me in return. To lay beside at night, work beside in the day, and sit together watching life’s sunset, madly in love till the day we die.
I answered the second question, about the meaning of the universe, in a bit more ambiguous terms:
The universe in and of itself has no meaning. It is plain matter, and only when touched by the hand of an artist can anything have meaning. Even then art is often left to interpretation. It is up to the eyes of the viewer to select what meaning he takes from a piece of art, and the physical world around us is no different. I believe it is touched by the hand of the Divine Artist, though even if you do not, I am sure you can appreciate it’s beauty nonetheless. The world around us is a blank slate, take it, and make something beautiful.
